If you're planning a move off Pardot in 2026, the first thing worth knowing is that there's no forced deadline. Salesforce hasn't announced an end of sale, and there's no hard cutover date — what's changed is that Pardot (now Marketing Cloud Account Engagement, or MCAE) is in maintenance mode, and Salesforce is positioning Marketing Cloud Next as the long-term direction. So the real question isn't “do we have to move,” it's “when does it make sense to.”
Where migrations actually go wrong
In our experience — and this lines up with what other Salesforce partners report publicly — the failures are rarely about the platform itself. They're about what the migration surfaces:
Data quality debt that was always there. Duplicate leads and contacts, stale job titles, inconsistent country values, missing opt-in fields, and Salesforce Campaign attribution that quietly broke months ago. None of this is a Marketing Cloud problem — it's Pardot technical debt that the migration finally makes visible.
Engagement Studio programs nobody fully understands anymore. Programs get modified by multiple admins over years and drift from whatever the original design was. Migrating logic you don't fully trust is how you end up automating the wrong thing at scale.
Importing everything instead of what's actually useful. The most common mistake isn't technical — it's scope. Pulling every historical record across usually means ending up with a target org full of dead records, broken segmentation, and deliverability problems within the first 90 days.
API assumptions that quietly expire. Most legacy Pardot API endpoints still work, but Salesforce is steering integrations toward the newer MCAE endpoints — any custom integration built years ago is worth auditing before, not after, migration.
What we'd actually recommend
Audit before you migrate, not during. Data quality and automation logic should be reviewed and cleaned in the source system first.
Migrate on purpose, not by default. Decide what data and programs actually earn a place in the new system — don't just lift and shift everything because it's there.
Treat it as a 90-day stabilization window, not a go-live event. Deliverability and segmentation issues from a rushed migration tend to show up weeks later, not on day one.
The honest version
There's no deadline forcing your hand, so the best time to migrate is when you're doing it deliberately — with a clean data set and a real reason — not when a vendor's messaging makes it feel urgent. If you want a second opinion on your specific Pardot org before deciding, that's a shorter conversation than a full migration project.
